JILLIAN VUKOVICH
“Educate and Empower”
Jillian Vukovich, CFP® , Financial Advisor and Division Manager for IG Wealth Management confidently asserts herself as a powerhouse in the industry, continuously carving out a path that showcases her unwavering experience and commitment. Her unconventional journey, having completed her post-secondary education in Psychology, proved integral to her success as a Financial Advisor, as she quickly recognized the profound impact of emotions on financial decisions.
“While I had always been responsible with finances and had a solid understanding of money thanks to my upbringing, it was the first time I felt like I had tangible options and felt enthusiastic about them.” Encouraged by her Advisor who highlighted the need for more women in the financial sector, Jillian began considering a career shift.
“My goal has always been to educate and empower individuals by exploring the deep connection between emotions and financial choices,” she says. Within a few years, Jillian seamlessly integrated her psychological insights with financial expertise.
“It was not just about numbers, spreadsheets, and rates of return; it was about the emotional aspect. It was about understanding one’s relationship with money, their feelings, their level of financial comprehension, their confidence in decision-making, and what excites them.”
After exploring various financial institutions, Jillian started her business in a client-centric environment at IG Wealth Management, where she has spent the last eight years growing, developing, and serving her community.
“I genuinely believe in the value of client relationships within the industry”
In Jillian’s profession, client relationships form the cornerstone of her practice.
“From a market perspective, we all have access to the same market – any other institution can construct a similar portfolio to mine. Where I set myself apart is through relationships, communication, and understanding, particularly in terms of emotional intelligence. I believe there is a scarcity of this empathetic approach within the industry. For these reasons, I prioritize fewer clients with whom I can foster deep personal connections.”
For Jillian, a considerable benchmark of success lies in the meaningful connections she builds with clients. “Success involves being invited to events like retirement barbecues or mortgage burning parties – moments where clients celebrate reaching significant milestones. I am always honoured to be a part of these joyous occasions.”
Bridging the Gap for Business Owners
Having a substantial client base made up primarily of business owners, Jillian recognizes the tendency for many of these professionals to prioritize their ventures over personal financial matters.
“As a business owner myself raised in an entrepreneurial family, I have a deep understanding of business operations. I believe it is crucial for individuals to understand the rationale behind their financial choices, rather than simply relying on hope or trial and error. I provide the necessary support and guidance in creating a well-rounded financial environment for my clients.”
Jilian emphasizes “Beyond the profession, an ideal client for me is someone who is looking for strategies on how to minimize taxes, preserve assets to pass to the next generation and who finds themselves uncertain about the next steps in their financial journey. They may have reached a certain point but are unsure about how to allocate their next dollar or solve the next problem. As a Financial Advisor, I aim to offer personalized assistance by presenting various options aligned with clients’ goals.”
The Value of Financial Education
“My slogan is to educate and empower, reflecting my commitment to providing clients with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions and the confidence to act on those decisions,” she says. “My approach is heavily reliant on asking questions, gaining clarity, and prioritizing transparency, while also making sure to allocate sufficient time to explain concepts thoroughly.”
By breaking down complex financial concepts into digestible pieces, Jillian cultivates a learning environment that fosters confidence, encourages collaboration, and promotes financial literacy. “When people have a solid grasp of financial matters, remarkable opportunities emerge. It not only benefits the client but also strengthens businesses and communities as a whole.”
From the first conversation with a client, Jillian is transparent about what they can expect when working together. “I make it clear that if there is anything I can do differently—whether it is more or less of something—clients should feel comfortable sharing it with me openly.”
By fostering a sense of partnership and shared responsibility, Jillian establishes a solid foundation for navigating challenging discussions and resolving any issues that may arise. “I aim to be a personal CFO for my clients and regular communication and tweaks to the plan will help ensure we stay on track to succeed in their goals today and into the future.”
Mentorship and Community Engagement
In a world where each day brings new advancements, diverse perspectives, and constant change, Jillian channels her focus toward ongoing learning. “In my industry and the world in general, learning is ongoing – you simply can't afford to stop.”
“Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to have had wonderful mentors to guide me along the way. I recognize that I would not be where I am today without the diversity of opinions and expertise from these individuals.”
Acknowledging the impact, Jillian has made a commitment to pay it forward not only through peer mentorship but also by serving as a Division Manager for central Alberta. “I provide guidance where I can and readily connect mentees with others who may offer expertise in areas where I lack. This approach ensures a comprehensive and well-rounded mentorship experience for everyone involved.”
Alongside these professional contributions, Jillian also holds a chair within IG Wealth Management for the Women in the Field and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. “It is essential to explore ways to attract and retain women in the finance industry, as their perspectives, deeper emotional understanding, and experiences are invaluable. By creating a more inclusive environment, we can harness the unique contributions of women in finance and promote a more dynamic workforce.”
Jillian’s dedication to advocacy for equality in the workforce holds a special place in her heart. “I am deeply committed to setting an example for my daughter,” she says. “I want her to understand that women can excel as strong professionals and hold positions of leadership at the same table as anyone else.”
In addition to her advocacy work within IG Wealth Management, Jillian serves on the board of Dress for Success, a foundation dedicated to helping women re-enter the workforce after significant life events. She also lends her financial expertise to the Red Deer and District Community Foundation and organizes charity events to support the Mustard Seed's school lunch program, providing meals to over 700 children daily!
What’s Next?
In only three years, Jillian and her team have experienced remarkable growth. They have transformed into a dynamic team of seven dedicated individuals committed to servicing clients and community by helping them achieve their financial goals. Currently in the process of partnership, the team is constantly growing and evolving, keeping up with the ever-changing demands in the industry.
“We have been building a passionate and supportive team around us,” she says proudly. “I know I am not an expert in everything, and there is incredible value in having a group of knowledgeable Advisors to complement my skills and provide diverse perspectives. Driven by our shared philosophy of growth and improvement, our team is not only attracting the right clients but also positioning ourselves as leaders in the field.”
“Looking forward, I am excited to witness the growth and development of our community, fueled by the power of finance,” she says. “With financial security and literacy, individuals are better equipped to support not only themselves but also their community, businesses, and charitable organizations.”
“Together, we have the potential to make a positive impact on society as a whole.”
