GURMAN ARORA
"Building the Guide Map: Gurman Arora brings technical depth to top-tier Canadian team"
Few Advisors operating in the Canadian wealth management space carry the credential depth Gurman Arora has assembled. Fewer still have put it to work to bolster a team as consistently recognized as MLD Wealth Management of Canaccord Genuity Corp. (MLD). Gurman’s designations span nearly every dimension of complex financial planning: investment management, advanced insurance strategy, corporate tax, and trust and estate law. That breadth isn’t purely academic; it’s built on experience and a consistent appreciation for the people and lives these combined components impact. It allows him to engage meaningfully across the full range of structures varied and complex family situations demand, drawing on each discipline to create planning that holds together at every layer.
“Wealth management is a constantly evolving world. Tax laws change, markets shift, strategies become more sophisticated,” says Gurman. “The depth I bring across these disciplines lets me build truly integrated solutions that protect our clients’ wealth not just in the portfolio, but in the structures that hold and transfer it.”
A decorated team. A differentiated model.
MLD Wealth Management is not a typical advisory practice. Founded by Chad Larson and Curtis Mayert, who celebrated their 20 -year business anniversary in 2024, the team has earned recognition that places it among the elite in Canadian wealth management, with accolades spanning investment management, alternative investments, and client service. MLD Wealth Management has been nominated for the 2026 Wealth Professional Advisory Team of the Year, one of many distinctions the team has accumulated over two decades.
Gurman joined this platform intentionally. He contributes across both investment and planning dimensions, with his most distinctive work in the architecture of wealth – the structures most advisors never approach.
“Many of our clients are business owners, C-suite executives, professionals, and multigenerational or blended families, all looking for more sophisticated planning,” says Gurman. “We work with clients around the globe, including those with complex corporate, trust, and estate structures. Our compliance infrastructure also enables us to onboard CEOs and executives of publicly traded companies.”
Clarity, protection, certainty
For clients at this level, investment performance is necessary but not sufficient on its own. The real vulnerabilities live in the structures: poorly designed trusts, inefficient estate transfers, uncoordinated insurance, and tax exposure at the corporate and personal level simultaneously. This is where Gurman’s work earns its value.
“Very recently, we had a family meeting introducing adult children to the structures we’ve set up on their behalf,” Gurman recounts. “That included a family foundation created to give back to their community for generations to come. We wanted to prepare them, not just introduce them to the documents, but help them understand the purpose, the values, and the mechanics behind everything their parents have built.”
After that meeting, both parents emailed him independently. The message: “We’re so glad you’re quarterbacking this.”
Quarterbacking captures the art of what Gurman truly loves to do. His process is about coordinating the full picture – the will, the trust, the holding company, the insurance policy, the charitable structure, and the investment portfolio, all working toward a unified outcome for the family. The objective is always the same: clarity on where the client stands, certainty in the legal and tax structure, and protection against the risks complex wealth inevitably attracts.
“We’re not stamping a template across the table,” says Gurman. “We’re building clients their own guide maps.”
A comprehensive planning discipline
Clients who join MLD enter an ongoing planning process that evolves with their lives. Nothing falls through the cracks at the foundational stage or at the high level. “There can be a tendency for Advisors to focus too much at the high level and miss-step over the basics,” says Gurman. “Our model ensures we’re covering everything at every level.”
When markets become turbulent, MLD clients are not left calling in a panic. Gurman’s team stress-tests retirement projections, models contingencies, and walks clients through scenarios before they occur, including market drawdowns, business exit timing, and estate freezes. “It’s not a matter of if the market crashes. It’s a matter of when,” says Gurman. “We’ve already had that conversation before the switch gets pulled.”
For high-net-worth families who need more than a portfolio – the trust, the estate, the corporation, the foundation, and the people who will eventually inherit all of it – Gurman Arora and the MLD team are building that map.
