Brian Moore, FCPA, FCGA, LPA, Founding Partner at TurnerMoore LLP Chartered Professional Accountan

BRIAN MOORE

Paul Turner and Brian Moore established TurnerMoore LLP Chartered Professional Accountants, in 1994, to help entrepreneurs, small businesses, restaurant owners, farmers and sub-trades work through the various challenges of business start-up, growth, and succession.

“Today, our 21 ethnically diverse partners support more than 3000 businesses across Ontario – quite an accomplishment given that when I started with Paul over two decades ago, I was working with just 33 clients out of my home office,” Brian Moore, one of the Founding Partners, says.

Small Business Success by the Numbers

Businesses run most efficiently and with the highest profitability when management has accurate, complete and timely information. TurnerMoore offers a wide range of business advisory services including financial and estate planning, computer and network consulting, development of business plans and financial projections, and general business advice and guidance.

All of the firm’s professional services are geared to providing their clients with the information needed to maximize their personal and professional potential. For example, one of TurnerMoore’s processes is to provide a comparison of clients’ financial information and profitability within their respective industries. “This information is critical to assess competitiveness,” Brian adds.

Computer & Network Consulting

Proper technology systems help clients’ businesses run smoothly. TurnerMoore takes the time to understand the information technology needs of the business and will evaluate functionality, cost, and portability. Once installed, the firm can also assist with the implementation, operation, and periodic review of your systems.

Accounting

TurnerMoore provides the full range of financial reporting deliverables including compilations, reviews and audits. The firm also offers regular bookkeeping and payroll services.

Advisory

TurnerMoore offers a variety of strategic business consulting services including Business Plans and Forecasts, Business Startup Consulting, Coordination with the client’s other advisors, and Strategic and Financial Planning. “TurnerMoore can help you choose software systems and set up internal controls to support buying, selling, or transitioning your business, and everything in between,” Brian says.

Succession Planning

Succession planning ensures that your business can run independently, without the owner/founder, should the worst happen. A succession plan is a tool to ensure the business can continue after the owner’s retirement, whether passing it to younger family members, an employee, or to an outside party.

Business Start-up

Whichever business entity you choose, sole proprietorship, partnership or incorporation, TurnerMoore can assist with developing your business plan, introduce you to bankers, meet with your lawyers, and other matters essential to a successful start-up.

Estate Planning

TurnerMoore will work with you and your lawyer to ensure that your designated beneficiaries receive the maximum benefit from your estate.

Controller-ship Services

The firm offers part-time controller-ship services. This includes hands-on advice about financial controls and procedures, assistance in month-end processes, and helping to ensure your business is in compliance with regulatory agencies. TurnerMoore can also assist with cash flow management, payroll administration, bookkeeping, and tax compliance services.

Tax Planning & Preparation

Tax planning and preparation is an integral part of the financial planning process. From business to personal to estate and trust taxes, TurnerMoore will calculate what is owed, create the necessary returns and slips, and, will help you minimize the taxes you pay. Every dollar saved in tax goes directly to the bottom line. “Tax is a consequence of making a business decision. Why spend $1 to save 30 cents, if it isn’t necessary to do so?” Brian adds.

Philosophy & Approach

TurnerMoore operates under the pledge of integrity and commitment - now and for the future. Partners share similar beliefs and are available to brainstorm ideas and troubleshoot problems. “Our small business experts give clients the one-on-one, personalized attention of a solo accountant, supported by the resources and expertise of a much larger firm,” Brian explains.

Clients appreciate this. One satisfied client says, “We signed on with Brian when he was working out of his home. As he grew, so did we, using his knowledge of accounting, financial advice for small business, taxes, payroll, and all government forms. We have been in business for over 30 years now and Brian has been a large part in our continuing success...” Another client says, “If you want someone to roll up their sleeves, to work harder, and to do more than anyone else, choose TurnerMoore.”

The firm believes in client education and has made a commitment to provide helpful commentary and resources. Up Close & Personal

In addition to growing a successful practice within TurnerMoore, and as a way of giving back to the organization that launched his career, Brian served on the Board of Governors for the Certified General Accounts of Ontario (CGA), on discipline and public practice committees, as well as on various CGA Canada committees and task forces. Following this, he worked as a practice inspector for his professional association for ten years. He was honoured with a Distinguished Fellowship Award in 2009.

Working with numbers has been somewhat of a family affair. “My mother was a bookkeeper, and my father was a business administrator. My wife Barbara has worked by my side for 24 years, while my eldest daughter, Chelsea has worked in my practice for the past 11 years in administration and payroll servicing. My youngest daughter, Nichelle, is currently studying accounting at the University of Athabasca.”

Since he was a 21-year-old student, Brian has volunteered in his community with local agencies and recreational organizations. He continues his commitment to his local community through TurnerMoore by organizing and hosting an annual fundraising event in support of the CNIB. He also provides financial support to the Sarnia Historical Society. He has just recently retired from playing men’s pick-up hockey and golfs whenever time permits.

As a final word, Brian says, “You are the expert in your business; we are your expert in accounting, finance, taxation and business management. TurnerMoore will be your adviser, your counsellor and your confidante. Together, we will anticipate, prevent, and help you be even more successful than you already are.”
