MILES SCHILLER, CFP, RRC, PRINCIPAL SCHILLER & ASSOCIATES PRIVATE WEALTH MANAGEMENT
MILES SCHILLER
"A Personal Approach to
Comprehensive Wealth Management"
Since 1996, Miles Schiller and his team have helped Business Owners, Entrepreneurs, Professionals and Retirees create a multi-dimensional strategy to build, manage and maintain wealth that specifically addresses who they are as people. Miles and his team currently manage approximately $160 Million in assets and provide top service to about 220 Western Canadian households.
Miles is currently ranked as one of the Top 25 Investors Group Consultants in the country. His numerous business achievement and management awards attest to the veracity of his philosophy and approach. Awards include the prestigious President’s Elite1 and Inner Circle Awards2 , the Harold Sinclair Long-Term Legacy Award3 and the Herb Carnegie Community Service Award (this award recognizes outstanding customer service and exceptional long-term community service).
Miles attributes more than two decades of success to having the right attitude. “The financial planning business is not about me. It’s about clients, their hopes, their dreams, and their priorities. My job is to find out what’s important to them as people and then to figure out the best way to help them to implement strategies that will get them there,” Miles says.
The team spends a lot of time gathering information about clients’ lives, family needs, future plans and business and financial pictures. A suite of proprietary data collection tools ensures the team has an accurate snapshot of their clients’ current circumstances. This information, along with advice from in-house legal, tax, and estate planning specialists, and the client’s personal advisors, is used to build a comprehensive, personal financial plan.
The plan itself includes specific Cash Flow Management, Taxation Planning, Retirement Planning, Estate Planning, Asset and Lifestyle Protection and Investment/Wealth Management strategies. Once the client has signed off on the plan, the team takes care of the paperwork and the details needed to implement it. The plan itself is a living document and to remain relevant, it has to reflect the clients’ current situation, which may have changed as a result of having children, getting divorced, selling the business, or death or illness. To ensure they have the most current information, team members meet weekly to talk about what’s going on in their clients’ lives. This allows them to address any changes in a clients’ family or business circumstances in a timely manner.
Client comfort is always a priority. It starts with the Welcome Room. A specific room has been designated to allow clients to relax, and perhaps indulge in some homemade, baked cookies, before their scheduled appointments.
“I grew up on a small farm in Saskatchewan. We didn’t have a lot of money, but we had family. These values have always stayed with me which is why we go out of our way to treat our clients like family. I don’t want to be known as that pompous guy in a suit sitting behind a desk. I talk to clients in the same way that I talk to family members. I want them to feel special and welcome,” Miles says.
“At the end of the day, my professional life is just as much about mindset and attitude as it is about numbers. People don’t want to deal with data. Nor are they overly focused on how much money they can accumulate over their lifetime. They are more focused on how much life they can get out of their money. Clients just want to know that my team is educated enough to do what they need us to do, so that they can do what they want to do, like retire, travel or buy that dream vacation home,” the award-winning financial planner says.
Clients Randy and Penny Aston attribute their ability to meet their goals to the Schiller team. “Schiller and Associates have proven themselves to be totally reliable, trustworthy and ethical over the many years that we have been clients. When we first started with Miles Schiller, we were a young couple who really needed to rely on Miles’ expertise to guide us through a longterm financial plan that would fulfill our goal of retiring at a young age. We’re transitioning to retirement right on schedule. We highly recommend their services,” they say.
Clients are supported by a committed, experienced and professional team including Associate Consultant Bill Spence, B.Edu. Bill, who is a four times Pillar Award Winner4 , has been with Schiller & Associates Private Wealth Management since 2015. “Bill is a true partner within our business,” Miles says.
Senior Assistant Denise Leslie has also been with the team since 2015 and is the client voice and face of the business. She is also an expert cookie baker and ensures there is a new batch of cookies in the welcome room before each client meeting. “Denise is a very key team member as she brings happiness and joy to our clients and our team,” Miles adds.
Executive Assistant Norma Hauber, has been working with Miles since she joined the team as a receptionist in 2005. Norma is the machine behind the Schiller team and handles all client administration and head office communication. “Norma knows each and every client and is truly a huge driver for all of us. She takes care of everyone and makes sure our clients’ achieve their goals.”
“We believe that if we want to build vibrant and thriving communities, we have to support the communities that supports us which is why we’ve dedicated our expertise, time and dollars to many local organizations like the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation, Lloydminster Rescue Squad, and Lakeland College, among others,” Miles adds.
In his spare time Miles loves to travel and spends as much time as possible with the family at the cabin. He also collects classic and muscle cars – he even owns a classic car restoration garage. He has been married to his high school sweetheart for thirty years. Miles and his wife Heather have two children, Bailey who is studying psychology at Lakeland College, and Sheridyn who is grade 9 student at Holy Rosary. An energetic, playful Maltese pooch named Laser rounds out the family.
Both Schiller kids give back and volunteer – recently Sheridyn was nominated to the Lloydminster Community Youth Counsel. “One of my proudest moments was when some school kids who were collecting money for a school project knocked on my front door. Before I could pull out my wallet to contribute, Bailey and Sheridyn had already run upstairs to get money from their piggy banks. They were only 8 and 5 years old,” Miles concludes with a smile.
